Kenya National Union of Teachers (KNUT) National Deputy Treasurer John Matiang'i has urged teachers' employer to transfer non resident teachers from North Eastern part of the country.
Matiang’i said that the area has become insecure to non residents.
This follows subsequent attack which targeted non residents.
Addressing journalists in Kisii town on Tuesday morning, Matiang'i condemned Teachers Service Commission (TSC) for turning a deaf ear to teachers plea.
Earlier this year teachers working in North Eastern part had defied to resume work. This came after December terrorist bus attack which saw at least 20 teachers lose their lives.
He recommended teachers swapping where those who hail from the area will be made to work there.
“We want TSC to bow teachers demand of transfering them to secure areas,” said Matiang’i.
At the same time Nyamira women representative Alice Chae supported teachers' call to have them transferred from the insecure parts and challenged the government to beef up security among Kenyans.
However, she has supported president's directive of enrolling 10,000 security personnel to confront security challenges in the country.
