Education Cabinet Secretary Fred Matiang’i wants a police officer and a teacher be honoured by the government for going “above and beyond” to see to it that exams got to schools.

The CS lauded the efforts by Lairuba Day Secondary School teacher Along’o George Mutwiri and police officer James Ngugi Chege after the two were captured on camera wading through flooded areas to get KCSE exams to the school.

The photo of the two wading through the water has been widely shared on social media, prompting Matiang'i's recognition.

"I would like to recognise the Principal of Lairuba Day Sec Sch – Along'o George Mutwiri and Security Officer James Ngugi Chege for their dedication and service during Day 3 #KCSE2017. Along'o and Chege went above the call of duty to ensure safe delivery of examination papers," he said on Twitter.

"I have written to the Chief of Staff to ask that Principal Along'o and Officer Chege be considered for a Recognition Award. Once more I congratulate and recognise these officials for being exemplary citizens of our great nation KENYA #KCPE2017," he added.
