The government has warned against spreading false reports through social media that could cause tension in the country during the election period.
In a media briefing, Acting Interior Cabinet Secretary Fred Matiang’I said some information being spread on social media were causing unnecessary tension.
The CS said on Wednesday that the government was committed to ensuring the safety of Kenyans, even as the IEBC works to announce the final presidential results.
“I ask every Kenyan to reject any incitement to cause chaos or report any suspicious activities to the police," Dr Matiang’I said.
This came amid reports of tension in Kondele in Kisumu County.
He was accompanied by Cabinet Secretaries Raychelle Omamo (Defence), Henry Rotich (Treasury), Joe Mucheru (ICT) and Amina Mohamed (Foreign Affairs).
Attorney General Githu Muigai, head of Public Service Joseph Kinyua and Inspector General of Police Joseph Boinnet were also present during the media briefing.
