The government through the ministry of education in partnership with the Equity Bank will soon launch the Wings to Fly programme targeting technical and mid-level college students.
This is in a bid to further provide educational opportunities to the less fortunate in the society.
Matiang’i affirmed that the government has highly leveraged resources and budgetary funds to ensure that education becomes an inclusive factor in Kenya. According to the CS, no Kenyan student should miss out on higher education as long as they are qualified for it irrespective of their social status.
“Every one of our children has a place in this society, we have sufficient capacity to train our children in medical training colleges, in vocational training colleges, the Utaliis of this world,” said Matiang’i.
The CS emphasized on a transparent and verifiable educational system in which its subjects possess academic credentials that are trustworthy and against all sorts of objectivity.
“Bear in mind that you are not only going to succeed because you have a degree, it is good to attain one but, you can follow that path, from a certificate course to a diploma course, to the university and finally you get a degree. You don’t have to go through a shortcut of getting a degree that you do not deserve,” advised the CS.
Throughout the process from the lowest certificate to attaining the university degree, the education CS promised government’s commitment to supporting the students. “We have enough resources to support you,” said Matiang’i.
CS Matiang’i has expressed stringent measures in the education sectors since he assumed office as the cabinet secretary in that docket with implementing a raft of changes including digital marking of national examinations.
Matiang'i was speaking today (Thursday) during the commissioning ceremony of the Equity Bank's 2017 Wings to Fly program at Kenyatta University.
