Acting Interior Cabinet Secretary Fred Matiang’i has had nasty text message exchanges with Bungoma Senator Moses Wetangula.
Matiang’i had put NASA CEO Norman Magaya on notice besides banning demonstrations with Kisumu, Mombasa and Nairobi CBDs.
And at a press conference, Wetangula claimed that the minister sent him an insulting message after he sought clarification on the new ban.
“When I heard about the new turnout of events, I wrote him a text message asking why he doesn’t consult lawyers before going public,” said Wetangula.
Matinagi reportedly replied;” Nonsense.” And Wetangula added:” That is exactly what you are. You have no legal authority to ban demonstration.”
Earlier, lawyer Otiende Amollo had insisted that the minister has no powers to declare demonstrations illegal according to the law.
NASA has vowed to initially daily protests from next week in a bid to push for removal of certain IEBC officials.
