Selection for 2015 Kenya Certificate of Primary Education (KCPE) successful candidates will start on January 21 next year, Education Cabinet Secretary Fred Matiang’i has said.

Speaking during the release of the results at Mitihani House in Nairobi on Wednesday, the CS said that the selection will commence immediately to allow candidates join their respective schools early.

The Education CS said that the selection will be based on merit, equity, affirmative action and student choice.

Matiang’i said that candidates both from public and private school have equal chances in the selection. He said that the Ministry will be meeting with Private School stakeholders to discuss the selection process.

“We have put in place proper measures to ensure that Form One Selection commences immediately,” he said.

Matiang’i further noted that the Ministry had revised the selection guidelines and will discuss with stakeholders before the actual exercise.

According to the Kenya National Examination Council (KNEC) 927,789 candidates sat for this year’s KCPE examination. The number increased compared to 880,486 candidates who sat for the same examination in 2014.

Meanwhile, the number of female students registering for the KCPE exams from Kiambu county has increased over the two years.
