Education Cabinet Secretary Fred Matiang’I has banned politicians from holding rallies on school grounds.

The CS also said on Monday that school buses should not be used to ferry supporters to rallies.

Dr Matiang’i gave the directive while addressing over 200 school heads from Gucha South sub county at Nduru Boys High School in Kisii County.

His statement came just a day before ODM announced that Nasa presidential candidate, Raila Odinga, will on Wednesday tour Kisii in a bid to consolidate the region’s support.

"We should not create unnecessary anxiety and disruption of school programmes by allowing political rallies in schools," Matiang’i said.

He warned school heads against involving themselves in politics.

Matiang’I said that institutions to be used as polling stations will be officially handed over to the Independent Election and Boundary Commission (IEBC) after August 4, 2017.

"The schools will become IEBC property after learners break for the August holiday. We want to secure our children’s future. They should not be victims of political violence which we have seen occurring across the country,” he said, as reported by The Nation.
