Education CS Fred Matiang’I will have to appear before the parliamentary committee on education, over the mass failure recorded in the 2017 KCSE exams.

The Julius Meli-led committee also wants to explain the planned mass transfer of headteachers and principals, which is supposed to take effect immediately.

The recent happening s in the education sector seems to have attracted the attention of parliament.

Meli, who chairs the committee on education matters has now summoned Matiang’I to appear before it.

“We have asked the Minister of Education to appear before the committee immediately we resume and to give us a very good report on how marking was done so that we can assess as the oversight committee of parliament to know where is the problem ailing the education sector,” said Meli on Friday.

The directive comes a few days after NASA MPs said they will sponsor a motion to impeach the CS over mass failure in the exams, where only 142 students attained grade A plain.

Many however say the committee is not in support of the many transfers of teachers but wants TSC to prepare a list of elderly teachers who will be affected by the planned transfers.

The matter has since found its way to court and will be heard soon.
