Matiang’i, speaking on Wednesday morning when he met with government officers at the Busia county border post, said police should respect the public because they are the same people who provide information to police to help in arresting criminals.

“The interior ministry has not authorized police officers to harass anyone. When making an arrest, police should do it in away that will not lead to chaos and protests,” he said.

Matiang’i urged Western Regional commissioner Ann Ngetich to ensure police officers are working around the clock to offer protection to the people and their property.

“Madam Ngetich has promised to work closely with other security team to boost security in the region and ensure our enemies don’t attack us.

"Traders operating at the Busia border must be respected and traders from Uganda without valid work permits should keep off. Fake products such as sugar will not be allowed to enter into the country,” he said.

Matiang’i called on police officers and other government officers working at the border point to arrest cartels who may bribe them so that they can be allowed to bring fake products to sell in the country.
