The Education Ministry will be piloting the new curriculum in all the 33,000 schools as the 8-4-4 system is phased out.
This is according to Education CS Fred Mating’i, who spoke on Wednesday at the Kenya Institute of Curriculum and Development (KICD).
During the consultative forum when he met other representatives from the education sector, Matiang’I insisted the rollout of the new system is on course.
“We are now ready to move on with the rollout of activities for 2018 which will include the countrywide roll out because we are doing this in public and private schools,” said Dr. Matiang’I.
He also sought to assure all parents and students that the new programme to supply textbooks for form students will go on as planned and that the government has released Sh29 billion to be disbursed to all schools for the textbooks from next week.
He also rubbished rumours that there will not be KCPE exams this year with the introduction of the new system.
Kenya Institute of Curriculum Development chair, Sarah Ruto, said the pilot project on the 470 schools done last year was successful, and phase two will be spread to all schools.
“We are now coming to Phase Two of the competency-based curriculum in 2018 and it’s going to be in all schools. All the preparations that can be done have been done. There comes a time where you have to stop preparing and you take the next step,” said Sarah Ruto.
