Interior Cabinet Secretary Fred Matiang'i will after all fight to succeed Kisii governor James Ongwae, a source has revealed.
The latest revelation culminates a heated debate that has seen analysts link him to a possible stab at Nyamira gubernatorial race or even deputy president.
But the source, who spoke in confidence, said the tough speaking minister is laying a foundation that would see him succeed Ongwae.
"Unifying the community is part of his agenda to prepare for 2022 polls. He has settled to run for Kisii gubernatorial seat," said the source.
He further said: "He pulled out of Nyamira due to the fact that his parents were born in South Mugirango in Kisii. It would be difficult to sell his agenda in Nyamira."
And this means that he will not go for deputy president post despite calls by a section of local leadership to deputise William Ruto.
