Education Cabinet Secretary Fred Matiang’i had a day to forget on Sunday in Nyamira amid opposition protests over his ‘ruthless’ handling of Interior Ministry.

Coming slightly a day after withdrawal of security details attached to Governor John Nyagarama, NASA supporters seized the opportunity to question his motives.

Trouble started when Matiangi was introduced to address a crowd in Nyakongo High School during the burial of Nyamira Women Representative Jerusha Momanyi’s father – in – law.

Supporters allied to opposition started chanting anti – Jubilee slogans as Matiang’i struggled to calm the situation.

However, moments after the situation was calmed, a tough talking CS warned against street protests adding that his ministry will not hesitate to take actions.

“Protests are not going for this nation at this time. I want to challenge you to rethink and do something right.

“I will not hesitate to take actions in line with the law. We have to put the country ahead of anything and that is my position,” said Matiang’i, amid murmurs from mourners.

He issued a Sh5 million cheque to the former academic powerhouse and insisted on honesty in national exams.
