Gatundu South MP Moses Kuria has said that veteran politician Kenneth Matiba is the 'only' true father of multipartyism and democracy in Kenya.
Speaking on Thursday during the launch of Kenneth Matiba Eye and Dental Hospital in Murang'a, Kuria said that Matiba paid the 'ultimate' price for democracy to be fully realised in Kenya.
"The only true hero of multipartyism and father of democracy in Kenya is Kenneth Matiba. All of us know he paid the ultimate price for democracy to be realized in this country," said Kuria.
He added: "Matiba was not doing that for self-gain but he was doing it for us and posterity." The controversial MP also took a swipe at Cord leader Raila Odinga whom he said 'pretends' to be the father of democracy in Kenya.
"We all know when agitation for multipartyism started some who pretend today to have fathered democracy in Kenya were either abroad or in jail. You don't see or hear Matiba chest-thumping and calling for protests because he fought for democracy," he said.
He told off Odinga with his call for anti-IEBC protests saying it is an exercise in futility.
"Today we cannot sleep because so and so is going around the country calling for removal of independent institutions. This, unfortunately, won't work," Kuria said.
