Master politician Kenneth Matiba has been awarded over 500 million shillings by the state for his suffering during the moi era by the government.
On Wednesday, Supreme Court Judge Isaac Lenaola awarded Matiba the highest ever amount given to a torture victim.
Matiba was able to prove that he was unlawfully violated by agents of the state prior to his release in 1991.
"Real justice can be expensive and nothing in compensation can return Kenneth Stanley Jindo Matiba to the sprightly and fit man that he was before his detention," the judge said as reported by The Standard.
The judge also linked Matiba's current state of health to the events he experienced while being detained.
"It so greatly affected the business acumen, attention, focus, energy guidance and leadership that he was giving his companies," the judge stated.
Matiba was compensated for torture and inhumane treatment, covered for medical costs and reimbursed for financial losses.
