Matungulu OCPD Patrick Mwangi has urged residents to embrace the Nyumba Kumi initiative and help security officers in the area fight crime.
Speaking to journalists at his office on Thursday, Mwangi said that rising crime rates in the area will decline if residents embrace Nyumba Kumi.
He said that the Nyumba Kumi model is capable of taming insecurity and other elements that threaten peace.
The OCPD observed that many residents across the sub-county have not embraced the Nyumba Kumi initiative.
“We will be able to deal with criminals decisively if residents embrace Nyumba Kumi and volunteer information to us,” said Mwangi.
He said campaigns to sensitise the people about Nyumba Kumi are ongoing.
Mwangi added that the campaigns are being conducted in schools, churches and public barazas.
The OCPD said that the area has experienced a spate of crime mostly cattle theft and muggings.
He said that police are working round the clock to contain the situation stating that criminals will be dealt with according to the law.
“As law enforcers we are committed to our work. Let criminals know that their days are numbered,” he stated.
