Matungulu deputy commissioner Patrick Mwangi has asked residents in the area to be vigilant during this rainy season to ensure their security.
Speaking in Katwanyaa area during an inauguration ceremony for Kambusu and Muthwani locations chiefs, Mwangi said that many thieves take advantage of the rain to break into houses and shops at night.
The commissioner said several cases of break ins had been reported recently and immediate action needed to be taken.
"Thieves take advantage of the rainy season to break into peoples homes and shops, whereby many succeed because of the noise made by the rain,” said Mwangi.
He also asked parents, especially those who live near quarries to take care of their kids to avoid cases of accidents.
"Rain is a blessing but sometimes it can bring tears. Those people who live near quarries should watch their kids to avoid calamities,” said Mwangi.
The commissioner further asked residents to work closely with the newly appointed sub-chiefs to ensure security in their areas.
