Residents of Matungulu sub-county in Machakos county have been urged to stop taking the law into their hands by lynching suspects.
Speaking on Saturday on phone, Matungulu Deputy County Commissioner Patrick Mwangi said the constitution protects all citizens irrespective of their positions in the society.
He challenged the residents to follow the laid down channels in administration of justice whereby only the court can prove if one is guilty or innocent.
"I am calling upon the public to stop taking the law into their hands, lynching or beating up suspects is not justice," he said.
"If this continues, most innocent people will lose their lives remember a suspect is innocent until proven guilty."
He warned that his office ill not sit down and watch innocent Kenyans lose their lives in mob justice whereby he promised to crack the whip on perpetrators.
"We will be forced to come up with mechanisms to identify the perpetrators of these acts and arraign them in court," added Mwangi.
This is after cases of mob justice have increased in the area to an alarming rate where last week a motorbike theft suspect was lynched by an angry mob in Mukamukuu area.
