Residents from Matunwa in Gesima ward have expressed their fear that the newly proposed tea factory might not be constructed in the area or will take more time than it was initially expected.
According to the residents, there were wrangles between two parties, where one was proposing the factory to be at Nyamiranga while the other party was suggesting that the factory should be set at Matunwa.
The first group, which was lead by Victor Swanya, a politician and enjoying the support of directors and tea farmers from Gesima ward In Kitutu Masaba donated land for the construction of the factory, but nothing has been done so far since last year.
Tea farmers from Riakiong'oina, Riamaisini, Gesima tea buying centers led by Osinde Makori have expressed their concern of the delay of the construction.
“Last year we had a meeting which was attended by KTDA officials from Nyansiongo, during the meeting they promised the construction was to commence this month, unfortunately nothing has been done, so we are wondering if they have changed their mind to take it to Nyamiranga,” said Osinde
In addition, he said that they have heard the second party which was led By Nyamira Governor John Nyagarama are still pushing the factory to be built at Nyamiranga.
Philip Obiri, one of the farmers who was willing to give a section of his land for the construction of a road to the newly proposed factory at Matunwa lamented over the same, saying they had high hopes for the factory.
