Boda boda riders from Matutu trading centre in Borabu constituency have threatened to go on strike following a mysterious murder of one of their own.

Speaking on Monday after the retrieval of the body of Mr Kevin Mogeni from a nearby bush, angry riders accused security personnel of incompetency, and urged them to investigate the issue expeditiously for the purpose of natural justice.

According to them, riding past 7pm in the area has become dangerous with executioners targeting them for over a month now.

“This area is very unsafe for us and I want to emphasise that we demand immediate answers before we go to streets to seek natural justice. The police officers are very idle and normally, none of them is assigned to carry out a patrol in late hours of evening,” said chairman Peter Okero.

They further urged CID to investigate the conduct of Matutu police officers who have for a long time accused of working closely with criminal elements to execute such atrocities.

“We have evidence that some officers have been closely working with criminal elements and I think that is why they are reluctant to crack a whip. The government should urgently investigate them to quell this rising trend,” added Morris Ogari.

However, Seagent Philip Mutuku of the station defended the officers from the accusations but reiterated the commitment of the police force in combating the increasing acts of crime.

“I agree that the crime rate in the region is rising but I disagree that police officers are behind it. The disciplined forces are on the verge of pursuing the criminal elements,” he said.
