President Uhuru Kenyatta 's reelection bid has been dented after Mau Mau war veterans ditched his camp for the National Super Alliance (NASA).
Led by the chairman of the Mau Mau Governing Council, Joseph Ngacha Karani, the elders said they decamped from Jubilee because the government has neglected them by failing to compensate the veterans over atrocities meted against them during the fight for independence.
“We are joining NASA because it has started a journey towards compensation of freedom fighters and other Kenyans who have suffered injustices,” said Ngacha as quoted by the People Daily.
"Our members who were tortured, arrested, beaten, shot and forcibly evicted by the colonialists have been suffering and others dying in abject poverty as the government watch," he added.
Speaking when he received the elders at his Nairobi offices on Monday, NASA co-principal Musalia Mudavadi pledged that the opposition alliance will implement the Truth Justice and Reconciliation (TJRC) report if it forms the next government.
“This report is a product of public demand and Kenyans paid for the research that gave birth to it. They should get value for money,” said the Amani National Congress leader.
