Representatives of the veterans urged president Uhuru Kenyatta to push for their new demands.

“The nine separate groups of veteran have merged into one group to be able to push for the compensation agenda,” said Mwangi Kariuki the chairman of the organization of 75,000 members.

“We want not less than Sh28 million for each of the members who were tortured, arrested, beaten, shot and forcibly evicted by the British government during fight for independence. Majority of the war veterans are dead and it is the descendants that are left to languish in poverty which is unfortunate. We fought for independence and re-acquisition of land. We got the latter but we are yet to get the former 53 years since we became an independent State,” he added.
