Mau Mau War Veterans Association has asked Kenyans to accept the elections are behind them and work together in rebuilding the nation.

Speaking at Nyeri Museum on Thursday, the veterans called on President Uhuru Kenyatta and his deputy William Ruto to work on reuniting the citizens.

"The country is crying out for peace and unity. Now that the Supreme Court has upheld the reelection of Uhuru and Ruto, they should craft a new government which accommodates all Kenyans," said association chairman Mwangi Kariuki.

The veterans said the country has gone through tempestuous moments, adding that only consensus and a united approach would help the nation sort out the many unresolved issues.

"The country is hurting. National healing and reconciliation must be demonstrated through concrete actions," he noted.

They also hit out at Coast leaders calling for secession, saying their efforts are just but a dream.

"Our struggle for independence will be in vain if the push for the secession succeeds," said Kariuki.
