Six class eight candidates from four schools in Mavoko sub-county were given a 30-minutes motivational flight on Saturday.

The children from Nzoiani, Mt View, Evaline and Kavomboni Primary School were flown in a private chopper belonging to Mavoko MP Patrick Makau after they successfully answered academic questions from the MP.

The aeroplane was on standby at Nzoiani Primary School after it flew in Makau to commission two classrooms and an abolition block, CDF projects.

Makau randomly shot questions to the candidates who had all gathered in the public meeting together with their teachers and parents in the school for the occasion.

The six are the ones who got the questions correctly.

Makau said the treat was meant to motivate the children to work hard in school and excel in their academics as they focus being great personalities when they become of age.

The children who spoke to this writer on their return said they were all excited to board an aeroplane and be on air for 30 minutes.

They said they had been motivated to work hard in class and record exemplary performance in their examinations so as to realize their competitive dreams of joining lucrative professions to enable them afford flights whenever they make travels not only in Kenya but across the world.

Three of the children said they wanted to be pilots when they complete school.

The chopper’s pilot Captain Nyanjui later gave the children a 10-minute lecture on what it takes to be a pilot.

Nyanjui said discipline is paramount in the industry and encouraged them to take their education seriously so as to excel in examinations.

He said for one to be a pilot, he needs to excel in English, Mathematics and Physics to qualify in enrolling in aviation training institutions across the world.

Makau said all children can do well in exams and eventually make it in life in spite of their backgrounds.

He urged parents to develop good relationships with teachers to their children, motivate and support them in nurturing and help them excel in their examinations.
