Athi River MCA Michael Mutua has urged the Constituency Development Fund (CDF) committee to consider the health sector when allocating the funds in the next financial year.

Addressing journalists in Athi River Town on Tuesday, Mutua said construction of the Mavoko Level Four Hospital within the region had stalled due to inadequate funding.

"I am concerned as a leader from Athi River Town because the construction of Mavoko Level Four Hospital stalled immediately the 2013 general elections were concluded," said Mutua.

Mutua said the county government of Machakos was yet to take over the construction of the facility since devolved governments took effect.

He said the project was an initiative of the Kathiani CDF office before the constituency was split into Mavoko and Kathiani constituencies.

Mutua urged the current CDF committee, under Mavoko MP Patrick Makau, to complete the project, as the county government prepares to take over in the near future.

"Mavoko CDF should also stock the Athi River Health Centre with both drugs and equipment," said Mutua.
