Chiefs from Mavoko Sub County have been summoned to be more vigilant during this festive season to curb rampant illicit liquor trade in the region.
Speaking at Mavoko Stadium in Athi River during the Jamhuri Day Celebration, the area Sub County's Deputy Commissioner, Makori Kodeck, condemned those engaged in what he called illegal liquor trade and substance abuse business in the area.
"There are so many legal and lucrative businesses which someone can do to earn a reasonable livelihoods, therefore those in illicit liquor trade should quit immediately" said Kodeck.
Kodeck said chang'aa dens harbored criminals whom he claimed spent their time in the joints as they strategized and waited to go for criminal acts.
He called on those legally registered to trade in liquor to abide by the laws regulating the industry, so as to avoid being caught on the wrong side of the law.
The commissioner advised those who wished to prepare illicit liquor at home for family consumption during the festive season to ensure they inform the government in advance so that they do not get inconvenienced by security operations.
Kodeck however warned parents who had tendencies of going to drinking dens in company of their children that if found law would take its course as that was sign of raising up children irresponsibly.
