Construction companies within Mavoko sub-county have been urged to protect workers while at work by providing them with necessary protective wear.
The call was made by the area Fire Brigade Supervisor, Duncan Kamatu who said a majority of such companies in the region had exposed their workers to danger.
"This is unacceptable, a number of construction firms from this county have failed to provide their employees with the basic protective gear," said Kamatu.
Kamatu who addressed the press at his office in Athi River town on Wednesday argued the employees were more vulnerable to harm in case of accidents while at work.
He said employers of companies engaged in risky jobs such as those in construction industry among others including industrial factories should emulate the Standard Gauge Railway's constructor, China Road and Bridge Corporation that offers maximum protection to its workers whether technical or supportive.
"Let managers of companies that engage workers in heavy and risky technical and casual jobs visit CRBC construction sites so as to see what I mean, the company knows the meaning and importance of protecting workers through provision of protective gear for personal safety," said Kamatu.
Kamatu lauded the company revealing that even visiting guests to its construction sites are always provided by protective gear and given basic safety orientation before getting to the field.
He also asked the companies to establish emergency and safety departments as required by the law.
