After bodaboda riders raided and burnt down Syokimau Administration Police camp, police are looking for Mavoko member of Parliament Patrick Makau who has been linked to the burning of the camp on Wednesday by enraged members of the public.
The lawmaker is believed to have led the group of bodaboda riders to the station before they attacked and burnt down the structure acting as cells. The protesters are also said to have looted some valuables from the facility before setting it ablaze.
“We have visited his home but he is nowhere to be seen. His mobile phones have been switched off but when any member of the public sees him tell him that the police need him,” said one of the detectives handling the matter.
It is at the burnt facility that murdered lawyer Willie Kimani, his client Josephat Mwenda and taxi driver Joseph Muiruri are believed to have been held before they were murdered and later their bodies dumped in Ol-Donyo Sabuk River in Machakos County.
Addressing the public on the arson attack on the facility, Inspector General of Police Joseph Boinnet said that he had ordered police to investigate the incident and get the perpetrators behind it. He had also condemned the act and termed it unlawful as no member of the public was by any means "above the law."
“It is against the law to burn such a structure that serves locals for prosperity. I have ordered that the perpetrators behind the attack be arrested,” said Boinnet.
It has however been confirmed by Syokimau and Mlolongo residents the protestors were from Athi River.
