(Photo/ the-star.co.ke)As we draw closer to the next general elections, parents from Mavoko sub-county have been asked to desist from neglecting their children in the name of running after politicians affiliated to different political outfits for handouts.
Speaking at St Jude’s Catholic Church in Athi River town, Geoffrey Omoding, Athi River deputy county commissioner, said that it is worrying to see high numbers of parents leaving their children without proper care in order to attend prayer rallies to get paid at the end of the day.
Omoding said that a good percentage of youths, women and men from this region have been lazy since campaigns started.
He said that it has become common to see politicians filling them in buses for them to be ferried to rallies throughout the week at the expense of their children.
“I wonder where politicians get locals to fill five to eight 60-seat buses in Athi River. They are always ferried to political rallies and events at weekdays,” he said on Friday, as quoted by the Star.
He further said that the matter is not a joke as many residents are taking it from the region.
“The situation is serious. Some men, women and youths leave their houses as early as 8 am and return at midnight daily in the name of running around politicians for handouts as little as Sh300,” he added.
