Residents from Mavoko Sub County have been lauded for installing their houses with fire extinguishers in case of fire outbreaks in the area.
Addressing the press in Athi River office on Friday, area Sub County Fire Brigade Supervisor, Dancun Kamatu said cases of fire incidences had tremendously gone down over the last two months.
“We have to commend area residents for installing their premises with fire extinguishers. This has reduced cases of fire breakages in the sub county," said Kamatu.
Kamatu attributed this to high levels of sensitization on emergency preparedness and safety measures among the residents, a campaign which the sub county's fire department has been undertaking since early this year.
He noted that majority of homes and business premises in the region had been installed with effective hand fire extinguishers, with the capacity of putting out small fires once they break out.
According to the officer, the devices are important since they help control spread of small fires, making most of the areas within the region safe and habitable.
Kamatu called on learning institutions; both private and public, to also follow suit and install their structures with extinguishers to prevent fire accidents.
He said there were lots of fire outbreaks in the region last year, which led to lose of lives and property worth millions of shillings hence need to protect all homes and facilities to reduce the rate this year and years to come.
