They said the projects do not benefit locals meant for them hence lying idle as ‘white elephants’ while they keep on suffering after millions of their taxes are squandered by few individuals.

Speaking during a public baraza at Ngelani Assistant Chief’s office on Wednesday, the residents urged Governor Alfred Mutua to ensure a borehole which had been ‘shoddily’ dug in the area is redone to meet its intended purpose.

“There is a lot of water problem in Ngelani and its neighborhoods, this borehole dug by Machakos Government a while ago was poorly done hence does not hold water. There is no water in it as you can all see,” Resident Veronica Ngina told the press.

Ngina said they make several kilometers seeking for water from River Athi which they share with their livestock.

She said the situation was serious and some of them (residents) were sick and tired of the situation.

“This dam does not help us, the county government gave us a raw deal. We fetch water from River Athi which is far away from our homes,” said Regina Mutetu.

Mutetu said Mutua cheated there were adequate water and showers in Mavoko.

Muthwani MCA George Kingori said he will petition the county government to rectify the dam and dig two more including boreholes in the area to end the perennial water problem in Ngelani once and for all.

Kingori said more than 1200 families in Ngelani were suffering from acute water shortage.

He said the residents should remain calm and optimistic as he sorts out the issue with relevant authorities at the Machakos Government including Governor Mutua himself.

Kingori said the residents should register as voters in numbers to enable them to benefit more from government’s development projects and incentives.

“There are only 600 registered electorates in Ngelani according to IEBC’s 2017 voter register, I advise you to register in numbers to help the government in planning so that you benefit more from its projects and incentives,” said Kingori.
