Mavoko residents have called on the Area MP, Patrick Makau, to lead in voter registration sensitization so as to increase numbers of those getting registered in the constituency.

Addressing the legislature through their representative, Joseph Matavi, the residents said they were concerned given that the constituency was lagging behind as compared to other regions.

"We residents of Mavoko constituency request you as our member of parliament to come up and lead sensitization campaign on voter registration in this area," said Matavi.

Matavi said the voter registration turn out was low arguing majority of the constituents do not know importance of the exercise including participating in election exercise.

John Mumbi, a resident told the MP that the youth were the major culprits arguing some of them were equally never concerned with seeking for National identification cards even though they had come of age.

"Even though most of the Mavoko residents have ignored visiting the constituency IEBC offices for voter registration, youth equally do not seek seek registration as voters due to lack of IDs," said Mumbi.

The residents urged the MP to help in massive drive on ID and voter registration by facilitating and engaging in mobilization of masses to seek, acquire national identification cards alongside voter registration.

Responding to the call, Makau said he was already advocating for voter registration process in the constituency but noted there was need to adjust.

"I am already campaigning and helping young people acquire national identification cards and immediately register as voters," said Makau.

Makau said his office would design a more credible and practical strategy to engage all the residents in massive campaigns on national identification cards acquisition and voter registration to raise numbers of valid voters in the region before the exercise closes.
