Slum dwellers in Mavoko Constituency, will be issued with free land to improve their living standards.
Speaking at City Carton Slum in Athi River on Monday, Mavoko MP Patrick Makau said the constitution demands that all Kenyans live under better conditions.
"All Kenyans need to live well according to the constitution, hence the reason why the slum dwellers will be given free parcels of land," said Makau.
Makau said most of the residents living in the slums, such as City Carton, had suffered for long from all sorts of calamities ranging from floods, illnesses, fire breakages as recently experienced, alongside many other hardships and life frustrations.
He said his office was committed to ensuring that all needy residents in the constituency got better space for settlements, to enable them enjoy their fundamental rights as provided for in the constitution.
The legislature gave Constituency Development Fund donations of assorted clothes, food, bedding, utensils, shoes, 20,000 liters of drinking water and cash, to 160 families of more than 500 people, residents of the City Carton Slum who had their houses and all property razed down by fire on Friday last week.
