Women in Mavoko Sub County have been urged to quit hard labor and venture into business in a bid to improve their health standards and those of their offsprings.
Addressing journalists in Mlolongo town on Saturday, Bridget Mbinya, nominated Member Machakos County Assembly, said the rate of women engaging in hard labour in the county is astonishing.
“As a woman and leader in Machakos County am concerned with women from Mavoko Sub County engaging in hard labor," said Mbinya.
Mbinya noted that most of the women especially in Athi River town were engaging in casual labor jobs which mostly are in construction sites.
She said such jobs are risky to their health given that women are not that strong compared to men.
Mbinya urged women to look for alternatives instead of engaging in such jobs.
“There is alternative jobs which women can get engaged in and afford to live better lives,” noted Mbinya.
Mbinya advised women who are already in the construction industry as casual labarors to quit and use their savings to start businesses.
She said such women could also unite to form women groups to enable them benefit from government initiatives such as uwezo funds which will boost their projects.
