Both Jubilee and Nasa have rubbished the Ipsos Synovate opinion poll that shows that neither President Uhuru Kenyatta and Nasa flag bearer Raila Odinga would win the presidency in the first round if elections were held today.

The poll released on Tuesday places Uhuru at 47% while Raila falls behind him at 42%.

Speaking on Citizen TV on Tuesday, ODM Chairman John Mbadi said that the August 8 presidential poll will be won in the first round by either Uhuru or Raila.

"There is no third strong force in the presidential race that would occasion a runoff. Regardless of voter turnout, one presidential candidate- Raila or Uhuru, will win. In my estimation, that candidate will be from Nasa," said Mbadi.

"I do not think the other presidential candidates would upset the numbers much," added Mbadi.

Nairobi Jubilee senatorial candidate Johnson Sakaja echoed Mbadi's sentiments saying there will be no runoff as Jubilee will carry the day on the first round.

"I do not think there will be a runoff. Jubilee will carry the day. There has been no change in the support for Uhuru, despite the challenges and bashing especially on unga matters," Sakaja said.

Mbadi exuded confidence that Nasa will win the August 8 poll noting that numbers have started to tilt in their favour. He warned Jubilee that they should be very afraid by their small margin lead.

"Incumbents lose elections in the last month of campaigns. Jubilee should be careful.Mostly incumbents lose supporters and hardly gain. Uhuru should be worried if his numbers remain the same," he said.

The Suba MP argued that most of the undecided voters are in Nasa strongholds.

Sakaja, nevertheless, dismissed Mbadi's argument saying Jubilee is not worried as even after Nasa announced a flag bearer "it did not take away from Uhuru."
