An impeccable source had revealed plans to axe Mbadi, who also doubles as National Assembly Minority Leader and Junet Mohammed, who serves as the party's Director of Elections.

"They have agreed that he will relinquish the seat. He can't double while the party should move on," said the source.

Dagoretti North MP Simba Arati had reprimanded Raila Odinga to relieve the Mbadi on grounds that he could not hold two positions.

But a circular sent by Registrar of Political parties Lucy Ndung'u confirmed that Mbadi remains the party chairperson.

"In exercise of the powers conferred upon me, I give notice that the ODM party intends to change its party officials," read the statement.

In the changes, Mbadi remains the chairman and will be assited by Governor Josephat Nanok and Kisii Women Representative Janet Ong'era.

Lawyer Edwin Sifuna will formally take the position of Secretary General while governors Wycliffe Oparanya and Hassan Joho would remain deputy party leaders.
