Suba MP elect John Mbadi. He has reiterated hat President Uhuru Kenyatta is discharging duties through temporary powers assigned to him by the constitution. (twitter.com)ODM Chair and Suba MP elect John Mbadi has reiterated that President Uhuru Kenyatta is discharging his presidential duties due to the temporary presidential powers outlined in Article 134 of the constitution.
Mbadi thus believes the president had no power to summon the newly elected members of parliament for the swearing in ceremony scheduled for Thursday.
"President elect Uhuru Kenyatta is operating on temporary powers awarded to him by Article 134 of the constitution. Thus, we find it odd for him to convene the Natinal Assembly for swearing in purposes," said Mbadi
Mbadi made the remarks in Lavington on Wednesday while responding to questions from a reporter from NTV and he clarified that all NASA affiliate MPs had convened to discuss the way forward on the swearing in ceremony even as the presidential petition is still in pending in the Supreme court.
"We have convened here as NASA affiliate MPs to discuss the way forward concerning the swearing in ceremony scheduled for tomorrow (Thursday). We have had different views on this issue and we have convened here to try and reach a consensus," added Mbadi.
Mbadi, however, rubbished the warning from Garissa MP elect Aden Duale daring NASA affiliated MPs to stay away from the swearing in ceremony. The ODM chair believes the National Assembly cannot attain the super majority required in electing a speaker if they are not present.
