Vihiga County government has plans to partner with the World Bank in its bid to improve Mbale as a major town in the county.
Speaking during the launch of the County Integrated Development Plan (CIDP) at Mbale town the area Governor Dr. Wilber Ottichilo said he going to sign a deal with the World Bank to work on the facelift of the town.
He said the County Government will get Sh250 million annually for the projects that will commence early next year.
Ottichilo added that the area of concentration will be on the town sewer system, cemetery, proper dumping sites and town planning a move that will improve the image of the town.
“In a week’s time the deal will be signed and early next year I’m optimistic the project will have commenced and after its completion, we will have completely changed the face of Mbale town,” said Ottichilo.
The governor said that the county projects will be executed at the sub-county level in a bid to take services closer to the people.
Ottichilo said that through the CIDP, there are projects that have been here marked to commence across the county.
“We want to do away with the culture of residents flocking to the county headquarters offices to seek services, we want to take the services closer to them and the sub-county and ward administrators will help us achieve that,” Ottichilo said.
He added that residents must be involved in the decision-making process, where they are given a chance to identify major projects they want to prioritized for implementation.
The Vihiga governor also promised to hold meetings in each ward twice a year where residents are given a chance to identify projects that may have been completed on time and any other issues affecting them.
