Mbaruk residents in Nakuru West sub-county have pleaded with the county government to live up to its promise and repair the broken drainage system in the area.
The residents on Tuesday said that the broken system was the genesis of the flooding menace that hit the area a month ago and displaced hundreds of them following heavy rains.
They further added that they were now living in fear following reports by the weatherman a few days ago that the dreaded El nino rains were far from over and urged the county government to expedite the process to avert a similar calamity they underwent.
"We are feeling let down by the county government because they keep giving us false hopes. Suppose the rains come calling again where shall we go to now that they have failed to repair the drainage system around this place," wondered Eric Kimani a resident.
His sentiments were echoed by Paul Wamunyinyi who added that several county delegation always came calling but did nothing after promising then to act on the matter.
"We appeal to the people concerned in the county to please ave the situation before it gets out of hand. I believe they know what we have gone through because they have been here on several occasions," he lamented.
Recently, county executive for environment Richard Rop toured the area and promised residents that they would repair the drainage system whose source is the nearby Dunduri hills but so far that remains a pipe dream.
However when contacted, Rop stated that they are yet to receive the El nino funds from the national government.
