Mbita Ferry Services on Saturday launched a new ferry on Lake Victoria in Kisumu known as MV Kipepeo, which will act as a floating restaurant on the lake.
Mbita Ferry Services General Manager Dedad Wakiaga says the 200-seater ferry will carry people as they take lunch or dinner which is served inside the ferry.
“We will charge Sh3000 for a couple and Sh2,000 per person for the dinner or lunch," said Wakiaga.
Wakiaga said those who will be on board will be taken around Lake Victoria and shown several sites as they enjoy their lunch or dinner.
Speaking in Kisumu during the launch of the ferry, Wakiaga said for a start, the ferry will operate once every last Friday of the month.
He however added that once the concept would have picked up then the ferry will start operating on a weekly basis and later on a daily basis.
Wakiaga said MV Kipepeo also has a conference facility for workshops, and a hall for private parties, adding that it can also be rented by people to move around the lake for leisure.
He announced that they also have a 90-passenger capacity ferry known as Lake First, which is mainly used for boat rides around Lake Victoria.
He urged residents of Kisumu County and its environs to support them so that Kisumu too can enjoy such services which are mostly associated with towns like Mombasa.
