Kisauni MP Ali Mbogo has urged Coast politicians to unite and make a political force that will help them bargain in the 2022 presidential general election.

Speaking in Kisauni on Tuesday, Mbogo said that it is time the leaders held serious talks on their future as a region.

The Wiper MP said that for a long time the Coast region has been alienated when it comes to matters national politics.

Mbogo observed that Coast has leaders who have the capability of ascending to national leadership.

“We (Coast) region have what it takes to produce a president in 2022 but our disunity is what is killing us,” he said.

The Wiper legislator noted that the region will continue to be sidelined unless leaders put their differences aside and embrace unity.

He said that 2022 provides an opportunity for the region to ascend to top leadership.

Mbogo claimed that Coast locals have been made a laughing talk over the years, adding that leaders must now see the sense of unity and bring the people together.

The Kisauni legislator asked Coast governors and other elected leaders to chart way forward for the region.

“We (leaders) despite our party affiliations must agree on the strategies to use in 2022 for us to be part of the national leadership,” he added.

A section of Coast politicians have so far declared support for Deputy President William Ruto’s presidential bid in 2022.

The Coast  region   that is considered an opposition stronghold seems to be changing tune ahead of 2022 general election.

On Sunday, Malindi MP Aisha Jumwa said that DP Ruto is the best suited candidate to succeed Uhuru Kenyatta.

“We cannot stop an idea whose time has come and I can assure you that DP Ruto will be president in 2022,” she said.

Jumwa’s statement has caused sharp reactions in ODM with politicians allied to Raila Odinga’s denouncing her statement.
