The county government of Kisumu has pledged to assist the people of Seme sub-county to develop and produce food crops in the expansive Mboha Valley in the area. Governor Jack Ranguma on Saturday said Mboha Valley is one of the most important land resources for development in Seme, which has never been exploited. Ranguma said for a sustainable community, the valley must be exploited to produce enough food to feed the people of Kisumu and for export to the outside world. “For a long time, the people of Mboha Valley have been tiling this farm in small quantities and getting no big harvest, now my government has stepped in to help you reap big,” he said. He said Kisumu County will be food secure once farming starts in the valley and urged the community to roll their sleeves and work. He said his government will avail the required resources to the community to be able to start preparing the farm for a better future. “We will provide water for irrigation and other required services to allow farmers to be able to till their farm with ease,” he said. Speaking in Seme when he launched the programme at Mboha Valley, Ranguma announced that more tractors will be bought to help in the cultivation of the farms. He told the community to get organised and locate the size of their farms in advance to avoid conflict that might threaten the start of the project. West Seme MCA Benter Ndeda, whose ward the valley lies in, said the project will uplift the livelihood of the local people. Ndeda urged her people to support the project and work hard to get a better harvest. “This is a gold mine and my people must now wake up and venture into proper farming and be able to gain more from farming,” she said.
