Likoni Member of Parliament Mishi Juma Mboko has lashed out at police officers in her constituency for laxity and allegedly being compromised by drug traffickers in the area.

Mboko said that it was evident that police were colluding with traffickers since they were conducting their illegal trade in broad day light without being arrested by the same police.

Mboko, who was addressing a graduation ceremony at ‘Half-way house’ rehabilitation centre in Likoni where 20 youth were successfully rehabilitated from the habit, said that Police did totally nothing in ensuring that the menace in Likoni is being contained.

She said that Likoni was leading in drug abuse among youth, a situation that has rendered the youth unproductive in their families and in the society.

According to the MP, it was totally surprising for drugs to be packed and distributed in various areas within Likoni and Mtongwe while police were watching in broad day light.

“The police officers are compromised that is why they can’t do anything in ensuring peddler are arrested and charged,” she said.

She went on “How can drugs pass all the boarder points and police checks and land in Likoni without being detected, they are later sorted, repacked and sold to our youth, where are the police?” she posed.

She said that neither the police nor the government was committed in fighting the vice, and urged Coastal community to fully take charge in containing the menace.

“If we continue to wait for the police or the government to arrest drug traffickers definitely it will be a long wait since nothing will be done,” added Mboko.

She however asked parents in Likoni to be very responsible and ensure that they play their parenting role properly so as to deter youth from abusing drugs.

The Likoni legislature also challenged youth to work with her in focusing on economic development projects and stop abusing drugs.
