Likoni MP-elect Mishi Mboko has apologised to her predecessor Masoud Mwahima following an incident in which her supporters are said to have disrespected the former MP.
Mboko’s supporters bought ten Swahili dresses, locally known as deras, and dumped them at Mwahima’s compound. This comes after Mwahima in one of his campaign rallies, said he would wear a dera if Mboko wins the election. The ODM branded deras were dumped at Mwahima’s compound immediately after Mboko was declared winner.Mboko criticised the move, saying Mwahima is an elder and a long serving leader who should be respected by all.“It was not my wish to see Mwahima humiliated by my supporters. I understand this is pure politics but the whole issue got out of hand,” said Mboko.“I didn’t believe it when I floored Mwahima with such a big margin. It was not an easy task to clinch the Likoni parliamentary seat from a person who has been holding it for 10 years,” she added.Mboko appealed to residents in Likoni to work with her as she focuses on transforming the constituency. She noted that the CDF kitty in the constituency has been mismanaged and it was time to reverse the trend and ensure all residents benefit from it.“We need to set our priorities right. Disbursing bursaries equally, encouraging youth to pursue higher education and fighting gender based violence will be top of our agenda,” she noted.
