Mombasa Women Representative Mishi Mboko has said Cord members had to put up a spirited fight to pressurize the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) commissioners to leave office.
Addressing journalists on Thursday, Mboko said the commissioners were adamant and they had to seek support from their Jubilee counterparts to have them surrender.
“It was not a walk in the park to have the commissioners see sense in our unanimous verdict that Kenyans had lost faith in them. As Cord, we had to strategise with our Jubilee counterparts to make them see reason,” said Mboko.
The nine commissioners, led by the commission chair Issac Hassan, said their decision to vacate was meant to stabilise the country and pave way for the next commission to prepare adequately for the coming general polls.
The Cord coalition had pushed for the disbandment of the commission, arguing the commissioners were not in a opposition to hold a peaceful and fair election.
