Nakuru governor Kinuthia Mbugua has been urged to deal with corrupt officers within his government saying that they were tainting his image and portraying his image negatively.
According to Nominated Senator Martha Wangare, yesterday’s demonstration by civil societies in Nakuru was enough proof that all eyes were on the governor to take immediate action concerning the pertinent issues raised.
Speaking in Naivasha on Tuesday after officiating the launch of a water and sanitation project in the area, Wangare said that some people within the county ranks were taking advantage of the situation to fleece public funds by diverting monies meant for development to their personal accounts.
“There are a lot of questionable deals within different departments that even the governor is not aware of but in the long run, he is the one tasked with explaining and verifying all monies channeled to the county,” she said, adding that unless he prioritised fighting graft his tenure will be ruined by people out to fulfill their personal interests.
The outspoken politician who was nominated on a United Democratic Forum ticket predicted a misery in the near future saying that corruption has taken root in many county sponsored projects.
“Some projects that had been kick started might stall for good because some people don’t view them as development initiatives but avenues to get cash,” Wangare noted.
He called on the County Assembly to play their oversight role well to eliminate corruption.
