Speaking in Naivasha on Monday, Governor Kinuthia Mbugua, together with other Judiciary officials said only a plot is available for building the high court.

“There was vast public land that was set aside for such developments in the 1930s but today, we can only have a plot to build a high court here in our county,” he said.

He added that such has happened because of land grabbing, an issue that has hit the county in a big way.

“The land that was set aside for public development in future back in those days has been taken by other people or even government institutions for alternative use and this is a major challenge for us as we try to implement devolution at its best,” he said.

Lady Justice Lydia Achode, head of Judiciary Asset Recovery Committee on Land said the problem with low land availability for building county high courts is present in many counties since it has been grabbed.

“This problem is everywhere in the country. You go there and find out that the land which the court could have been built has been taken up by another institution and that’s the main challenge in our endeavour to implement the constitution,” she said.
