Nakuru County Women Rep Mary Mbugua has accused a number of primary school head teachers for failing to embrace the government directive to give free education to all children in public primary schools across the county.
Speaking in Molo constituency over the weekend, Ms Mbugua said it was quite unfortunate that some school heads were still sending children home to bring money.
She said the school heads are still charging exorbitant levies to satisfy their own greed at the expense of parents, most of whom are widows.
“It is unfortunate that some head teachers have defied the directive from the Ministry of Education and are still sending home children over some levies,” said Mbugua.
Mbugua also lamented that the charging of illegal unacceptable levies has driven many children out of school.
At the same time, the legislator advised Nakuru residents to live in peace and not to be divided on political and ethnicity grounds.
“We should live in peace and avoid being divided by politics. Elections will come and go but what is more important is how we as Kenyans relate in bettering this country,”she added.
