Nakuru governor Kinuthia Mbugua has lashed out at county leaders for missing Madaraka day celebrations saying it was unforgivable and unacceptable. Kinuthia lamented that the officials had all the resources to attend the meeting adding that they should lead by example. “Personally I cannot miss any celebrations since I have a vehicle fuelled and serviced by the taxes you pay to your county government,” he told those who had attended the ceremony on Monday at Afraha Stadium in Nakuru. Kinuthia said that majority of the residents should be emulated for making it to the celebration despite having many challenges. “Some people incur expenditures like fare and sit under the hot sun but will always attend the celebrations,” he noted. “They should not craft any excuses for missing the celebrations,” he said. Nakuru East Member of Parliament David Gikaria, pointed out that majority of the leaders opted to go for the celebrations in Nairobi instead of being in the midst of their people. He said it was a public display of lack of patriotism for the elected leaders to snub such important celebrations. Gikaria also hit out at the organisers of the celebrations, saying that it did not portray the real meaning of the day. “The performances, songs and skits and even dances that were carried out today were to praise the county governor and Senator instead of celebration of the heroes who fought for independence,” he noted.
