Speaking on Thursday at the county headquarters when he officially launched the distribution of medicines to all county public health facilities, Mbugua said that his government fully recognises the work being done by health workers and that is why it has committed towards improving their working conditions and terms of service.

“Health workers are often forgotten but we will always strive to enhance the working environment for them because of the critical work they do,” said Mbugua.

He thanked Nakuru health workers for resorting to diplomatic means in addressing issues as opposed to staging go slows and strikes.

“Nakuru is among the few counties where health works have been diplomatic in handling their issues and that is the reason why you have not heard of them going to the streets to protest,” he said.

Elsewhere, a pressure group has lauded the distribution of medicines to all public hospitals in the county on Thursday.

The Nakuru human rights network through its director David Kuria, said the move will ensure that there is a solid supply of drugs at all hospitals which will ensure better service delivery.

Kuria however called on the county government to put adequate measures in place to secure the medicines from uncouth healthcare staff that have the habit of stealing medicines from public hospitals and latter re-selling them at their private clinics.
