Nakuru Governor Kinuthia Mbugua has pledged to continue supporting needy children in the county in a bid to improve the levels of basic education among children in the region.

Among the key improvements the county boss has tabled include the free school uniform programme which is already running, and the free school feeding programme that will boost the morale of children learning in both primary and secondary schools.

‘Today we are releasing Sh55 million to needy children that will help support them across the 55 wards in this county. Our main aim as elected leaders in this region is to reach out to as many needy children as possible to rise basic literacy rates among citizens,’ Mbugua said.

The Governor was speaking in Nakuru on Wednesday where he was accompanied by other county leaders when releasing the amount to be distributed across the 55 wards.

Mbugua also said an additional Sh406, 000 from the Kinuthia Mbugua Foundation will be added to the bursaries programme in an attempt to enable the course reach out to more targeted beneficiaries currently in primary and secondary schools.

‘The rate at which needy children are dropping out of school is not convincing at all especially in the rural areas. This is why we are initiating this project to curb poverty that is the root of all these,’ Mbugua added.

He also applauded the effort made by corporate and charity support initiatives in boosting education among children in the county while also calling upon other well wishers to join them in the same project.
